Football recap: The Briggs Braves won on Tuesday night at Liberty by beating Grove from Shawnee with a final score of 44-14. Jevan Dick scored three touchdowns on the night to lead Briggs into the semi finals on Saturday at Sequoyah High School versus Maryetta. Jaxon Crow scored on a 10 yard touchdown run and HighEagle Pratt caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from Layne Morgan as the Braves cruised to a 32-0 halftime lead. Brenden Holden scored on a touchdown run and Jaxson Osburn caught two 2-point conversions. Great defense by Aiden Walker as he had two interceptions. Great play by the Rose Twins, Urijah Solis and Logan Dreadfulwater.

Briggs Student Wellness Action Team (S.W.A.T.) focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, avoiding tobacco and ways to fight against temptations that may be harmful to the health of others. This week S.W.A.T. is showcasing a yummy snack recipe, a suggested sleep schedule and healthy snacks to try. Check back next week for more healthy living and snack ideas! Parents, Influenza and/or COVID-19 Vaccination Consent and Screening forms are being sent home with your child. The vaccination clinic is scheduled for November 14th from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the upper gym lobby. Tribal membership is not required and vaccinations are open to the Briggs Community. Robotics members delivered snack baskets as a way of saying thank you to the classes that helped sell the most shirts during the Robotics T-Shirt Fundraiser! Thank you Ms. Ashlock's 6th grade class, Ms. Capps' Kindergarten class and Ms. Pickens' 4th grade class! Robotics appreciates everyone that helped make this fundraiser successful!

2024 JOM INDIAN EDUCATION ELECTION One of the most important components of the JOM program is parent involvement. This October, parents of JOM eligible children will have an opportunity to get involved in the development of the JOM program at their school. Elections for JOM Indian Education Committee members will be held October 22, 2024, at Briggs School beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Administration Building. To serve on the JOM IEC, a person must be the parent or guardian of a JOM verified child. School board members or spouses and school employees or spouses cannot serve on the committee. Parents, Permission slips were previously sent home for your child to attend the Cherokee Nation Safety Fair on Friday, October 11th. This year, our school has partnered with Amira Learning in support of our readers. Amira is a digital reading tool that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to assess students’ reading mastery and coach them through new reading skills. Students can also use Amira’s “Practice” mode to strengthen their reading skills at home! On Amira, they will read out loud, receive interventions and support, and talk about the story they’ve read to build their comprehension skills. Amira can be accessed by clicking on the icon on the school website homepage. Students will need a login in order to begin using Amira at home, please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Every Friday in Oct. will be "pink out" day in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Picture money is due by Thursday, Oct. 10th. Congratulations to the kindergarten classes for winning the September attendance award with a 96.3% attendance rate!!! They will receive a 45 minute recess. Remember, every month the class with the highest percentage of attendance wins the recess award. Keep up the good work!! Way to go Kindergarten!!! Football recap: 5th/6th Alex Ryals scored the opening touchdown in a 40 to 14 loss to Woodall. Logan Ryals closed out the scoring with a 60 yard touchdown and added the two point conversion. Great effort by Layne Pence, Landon, Gruber, Jasper Birdtail, and Josh Meigs. The 5/6 grade ended the season 1-5-1. 7th/8th Woodall Beat Briggs 46 to 20 Thursday night at Sequoyah High School. Brenden Holden scored on a touchdown reception from Layne Morgan to close the gap at 14 to 8 after a disastrous start. After falling behind 22 to 8, Jevan Dick caught a big pass that took Briggs down to the 5 yard line where Brenden Holden scored his second touchdown on a run this time, Cutting the score to 22 to 14. Briggs recovered a fumble and had an apparent touchdown called back on a hard penalty of the receiver not asking the referee if he was on the line of scrimmage. Daylin Cross' 60 yards were wiped out by a penalty flag and Woodall would go on to take a 30 to 14 halftime lead. Jevan Dick scored another spectacular touchdown while getting interfered with and not getting any help from the referee. His touchdown made it 36-20. Woodall scored an insurance touchdown against the number two defense for Briggs for a final score of 46 to 20.

3rd - 8th Athletics Parents, We just kicked off our 2024 Briggs Athletics fundraiser with TeamFunded and we need every parent to follow the instructions below and make sure your player has as many shares as possible by this evening. The more shares, the better! We need to be shooting for 50-60 shares per athlete. This will only take each parent a couple of minutes to complete on their device. The Briggs School Johnson O’Malley Program (J.O.M.) will be giving J.O.M. Pre-K through 8th grade students a $5.00 credit to use for the purchase of a book at the Briggs School Book Fair. The Book Fair will be held October 7th– 9th in the library.

Reminder: Parents, please do not send your child DoorDash during school hours. This creates a safety risk for our students. However, you are welcome to deliver items to Michelle for your child. Students may pick up the items between classes. Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep our students safe!

Dear Briggs 3rd- 8th Grade Athletic families, On Wednesday, Oct. 2nd beginning at 5:30 PM, there will be a parent meeting held in the upper gym. All 3rd- 8th grade families of students in PE and athletics are encouraged to attend. Many of you know that we will not be having the Briggs Basketball League this year. This was our biggest fundraiser for the PE/athletics program. This year we are going to try a different fundraiser that requires no selling on your part and is very easy to do. We will be receiving 80% of the profits from this program. The parent meeting on the 2nd will go over all the details of this new fundraising program. Notes were previously sent home with our PE and Athletics students. If you didn’t receive the note or haven’t had a chance to fill out the information needed, do so at your quickest convenience before our meeting today. A link has been provided below. The monies raised will help purchase uniforms, pay entry fees, pay for meals when the team travels long distances, and for new PE/athletic equipment. We are also adding soccer as a sport at Briggs this year, so the money raised will also help purchase equipment and uniforms needed for this.
